Time for knitters of the Episcopal Diocese of Wisconsin to start knitting!
We have 4 outreach locations for your scarves, hats, baby blankets, ect.
Just Dane
in Madison gets support from the parishes in Madison and Dane County. One of their projects is supporting men and women leaving prison after an extended period of time. this includes clothing which fits our work well. Scarves and hats are always much appreciated.
Healing House
in Madison is supported by Madison parishes with meals for people who are leaving hospitals and are homeless including newborns and their moms. This program has just completed it’s 6th year. They serve children, adults and families. They offer support for finding housing, jobs and other needs of life. Knitted items for all ages, including newborns, are much appreciated.
St. Aidan’s
in Hartford has a Children’s pantry which supports children in their low income neighborhood where they are located. Scarves, hats and mittens for 4K to high school students are much appreciated.
The Episcopal “Christmas at Sea”
program of the Seaman’s Institute is based in New York has been providing scarves and hats and other knitted items for the men and women who are in the ships across the ocean. The original patterns of their scarf was designed and continues to be their tradition since 1896. Patterns are available on their website.
This year we went to the Bible for some help and found a verse that fits the work of the knitters. Matthew 25, verse 36,
“I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.”
This program has easy transportation. When you have finished your items you can give them to the delegates to the diocesan convention October 10 and 11 to bring to the knitting table in the exhibit area. Then the delegates from the programs can take the items home and deliver them to the outreach programs they were made for. A generous donor will take the items for “Christmas at Sea” and send them to New York for distribution at Christmas.
