What is $2560.33?  This is the amount of money the church made from the SCRIP program last year.  This was enough money to cover one month's mortgage payment with a little leftover.  This may not seem like a lot but this amount was raised by about 5 families that ordered on a regular basis with an average family order of $310.  Imagine what we could do if we had 10, 20, or 50 families that ordered on a regular basis?  If 10 families ordered on a regular basis the church would make $5120.66 a year, if 20 families ordered the amount raised would be $10,241.32 and if we could get 50 families to order the church would raise $25,603.30 which would almost cover the projected budget deficit of $29,622.44.  This could be achieved by people doing nothing different from what they are currently doing.

SCRIP offers over 500 prepaid gift cards from some of the country's biggest names.  SCRIP has cards that can be used at grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, movie theaters, home improvement stores, coffee houses, clothing and department stores, many online retailers as well as many other stores.  For example Sendiks offers a 5% rebate, Pick N' Save offers 4% back and Piggly Wiggly gives 3% back.  So if you spend $100 a week or $400 a month on groceries your rebate to the church would be $12-$20 a month.  Then if you spend $200 on gas per month the rebate for that would be $3-$18 since the gas rebates vary from 1.5% to 9%.  If you only bought cards for groceries and gas then your rebate would be $180-$456 per year.  Again imagine how that would add up if there were 10, 20 or 50 families who did that?  How much would it be if you bought cards for other stores you frequent besides the grocery store and the gas station?

What do you have to do to participate?  All you need to do is decide what businesses you frequent and place an order for the cards for that business.  Orders are taken on Sundays with the cards available for pick up the next weekend.  There are order forms and detailed ordering instructions on the table in the narthex.  The order form shows local and major online businesses but there are hundreds more available on the SCRIP website that can be ordered.  To see a complete list go to www.glscrip.com.  If you have any questions please email Jackie Jorgensen or call her at 262-242-4381.
