We believe that small group participation is an essential part of our Christian journey and encourage every parishioner to participate in at least one small group each year. We offer a series of special small group programs throughout the year.

Our newest group will begin Wednesday, April 23 and run for eight weeks. There will be two sessions, one on Wednesday evenings and one on Thursday evenings:

"Velvet Elvis" or repainting Christianity: Rob Bell, founding pastor of Mars Hill in Grandville , Michigan , offers in this book what he calls a "repainting" of the Christian faith. It is bold, it is fresh, it is raw, it is energizing. He writes: "For many people the word 'Christian' conjures up all sorts of images that have nothing to do with who Jesus is and how he taught us to live. This must change. For others, the painting works for their parents, or it provided meaning when they were growing up, but it is no longer relevant. It doesn't fit. It's outdated. It doesn't have anything to say to the world they live in every day. It's not that there isn't any truth in it or that all the people before them were misguided or missed the point. It's just that every generation has to ask the difficult questions of what it means to be a Christian here and now, in this place, at this time. And if this difficult work isn't done, where does the painting end up? In the basement." As one critic says, “So Rob Bell is re-painting – and his brushstrokes are beautiful.” To sign up for this class or to learn more, email Jim Gettel.

In addition, we offer a series of continuing groups:

Centering Prayer is a method of contemplative prayer that responds to God by consenting to God’s presence and action within and by quieting our faculties to cooperate with the gift of God’s presence.  We meet at church at 7:00 p.m. the second and fourth Mondays of the month.

Daughters of the King is an order for women to support a life-long program of prayer, service and evangelism dedicated to the spread of Christ's Kingdom and the strengthening of the spiritual life of the parish.  Our chapter meets at church the first Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m.

Education for Ministry (EFM) is a comprehensive program of theological education of the School of Theology of the University of the South that covers the basics of a theological education in the Old and New Testaments, church history, liturgy, and theology. Students meet once a week in seminars under the guidance of trained mentors.

Men’s Bible Study meets at church on Saturdays at 7:30 a.m. to discuss the assigned Bible lessons for worship for the week or a book chosen by the group.  Leaders rotate and all men are welcome.

For more information about any of the small group offerings, please contact Jim Gettel at gettel@middlevoice.com.
